Celine Dion won’t just be competing with Jennifer Lopez for space on CD store shelves anymore — they are about to go nose to nose at the fragrance counter, too. On Tuesday, the Canadian pop diva, 34, said that she is developing her own scent with Coty Inc., which also produces Jovan and Stetson fragrances. Celine’s scent, as yet to be named, is expected in stores in early 2003. (The French designer Celine already has a perfume bearing that name.) “I wanted to partner with a beauty company that would develop a product in a line with my values,” Dion said in a press release from Coty. “Like creating music, it is important that beauty products appeal to both one’s senses and emotions.” Last March, J.Lo, 32, said that she is expanding her fashion empire to include an as-yet-unnamed fragrance to be released this fall. Other stars with their own fragrances include Elizabeth Taylor, who was famously successful with hers, and Sophia Loren, who was not. In addition, Isabella Rossellini, Naomi Campbell and Michael Jordan have their own scents. Last February,, an online creator of customized beauty products, launched a Signature Celebrity Scents Valentine’s Day Program that, according to its Web site, “featured one-of-a-kind fragrances customized by and for three of today’s hottest stars — Kristin Davis, Allison Janney and Daisy Fuentes.”
