The Mentalist's Owain Yeoman's Simple, Scenic Wedding
UP AND AWAY
The helipad of a private estate in Malibu, Calif., made a magical wedding site for The Mentalist star Owain Yeoman and his fiancée, jewelry designer Gigi Yallouz. The couple began dating after a chance meeting at an intersection in Los Angeles, and married on Sept. 7, which Yeoman calls "our best day. All of the people at the wedding were our very best friends, they came from all over – France, the U.K., Amsterdam, Calabasas just down the road. It was just touching," he tells PEOPLE.
CHANGE OF A DRESS
Yallouz had a change of heart about her gown just two weeks before the wedding, so the groom stepped in to help her choose two new dresses: for the ceremony, an elegant strapless Lazaro gown, followed by a sexy party frock by Yaki Ravid. For his own dapper attire, the Welsh actor turned to Serj, his tailor on The Mentalist, for a custom gray suit. Attendants coordinated with the couple, with bridesmaids in white dresses and groomsmen in gray suits.
TEARS OF JOY
With Yeoman's best friend Louie officiating at the outdoor evening celebration, the ceremony kicked off with laughs all around. "He started off by joking, 'Listen, let's be under no illusion, we're all here to witness my debut as a wedding officiant,'" Yeoman recalls. "I got him ordained online and he's now available for bar mitzvahs." Another BFF taking part in the ceremony: Yeoman's French bulldog, Cash, who walked his buddy down the aisle.
SEALED WITH A KISS
They do! After the vows, Yeoman recalls a picture-perfect sky, with a cool breeze coming from the ocean. "It was like the gods were smiling on us with that ray of light. We felt so blessed and everything came together," he says.
VIEW FOR TWO
A scenic terrace made the perfect perch for wedding portraits. Of the estate where they wed, Yeoman says, "It was this beautiful vineyard that had 360-degree views of the Malibu mountains, the coastline. We literally felt like we were getting married in heaven. There was a sunset that seemed to just go on forever. It was incredible and crazy and magical.”
The reception's dinner took place on the villa's picturesque poolside patio decorated with driftwood and white calla lilies, before everyone moved inside for dancing. "The theme for the day was elegant, simplistic, natural and in harmony with that beautiful setting. You don't really need to do much when you have that as a backdrop," Yeoman says.
So much for simplicity! Though the celebration was an intimate gathering of about 100 guests, "it went from throwing a small party to throwing a mini festival," says Yeoman, who likened himself to an amateur event planner by the time the big day arrived. "We got a bit carried away. We had fire dancers, a beat-boxing harpist, a flash mob. Before we knew it we thought, 'Oh, we're throwing a small Woodstock here.'"
CHEERS TO LOVE
The good times continued through dinner, with a smile-inducing Champagne toast. Yeoman shared his excitement on Twitter the day of the wedding, posting, "Oh you know, just getting married today. No big deal ;-) could not be more excited to share my life with the most perfect girl in the world." He tells PEOPLE of his new wife (with whom he honeymooned in Bora Bora), "She makes everything for me make sense. She is just my perfect partner. She's my best friend."
