Over 60 percent of the 3.2 million people eligible to vote cast ballots, and results showed it was nearly two to one in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage, the New York Times reported. Ireland joins more than 18 other countries that have already legalized gay marriage, but is the first to do so by nationwide referendum. Many famous faces lauded the decision on Twitter, sharing congratulations to the Emerald Isle’s citizens .
