14 Celeb Couples Who Broke Up Only to Get Back Together Again
Love really is sweeter the second time around
Dave & Odette
On Aug. 3, the couple posted identical Instagram photos and captions, confirming their reconciliation with sunny smooching selfie. "2020. It ain’t all bad news. #TheAnnables," they wrote with the snapshot. Over on his wife's post, Dave playfully commented, "My post is better."
Dave and Odette share a daughter, Charlie Mae, 5.
The Brothers & Sisters actor and Supergirl actress tied the knot in a private ceremony in Ojai, just north of Los Angeles, on Oct. 10, 2010. After nine years of marriage, the pair announced in October 2019 that they were separating.
Khloé & Tristan
Their most recent relationship update comes after their split following Thompson's cheating scandal with Kardashian's family friend Jordyn Woods in 2019 and when Thompson allegedly cheated on the reality star in 2018 while she was pregnant with their first child True.
"Tristan is working hard to prove himself and has been a great dad to True," the source added of their 2-year-old daughter.
Thompson was present at Kardashian's 36th birthday, where a second source told PEOPLE that Kardashian and Thompson "acted like were back together" at her party.
The two have remained friendly and even discussed the possibility of having a second child together — and a source told PEOPLE in June 2020 that they have drawn "closer" to one another while self-isolating amid the coronavirus.
"The lockdown made them closer," the source said. "They hadn't spent this much time together since they lived in Cleveland. They have had an amazing spring with True in L.A."
Ne-Yo & Crystal
The singer opened up to The Talk on June 23, 2020 about how being forced to spend more time with wife Crystal Renay due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown allowed them the time to work on their differences.
“The whole quarantine thing was kind of a blessing,” he said, adding that it "allowed me the time to lock back in with" his wife and kids. Ne-Yo is father to sons Roman Alexander-Raj and Shaffer Chimere Jr., whom he shares with Renay, and son Mason Evan and daughter Madilyn Grace from a previous relationship.
In February 2020, the artist revealed that he and Renay had decided to go their separate ways and pursue a divorce — a decision he said they've worked through in the months since.
"Before the quarantine happened, we were definitely talking divorce," he said, "and the quarantine forced us to sit still, block out the noise from the world — you know the world can get very, very loud, and we tend to let the world's opinion mean more in certain situations than it should."
Ne-Yo said he and his wife had "uncomfortable" conversations, hashing out their problems by being "blatantly, painfully, brutally honest." He added that those "difficult" discussions can help or hurt, but in their case, it was productive.
"We're actually stronger now than we were before," said Ne-Yo. "Now we feel like we can really talk to each other."
Kelly & Mark
Turns out Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos had a nontraditional trip to the altar ahead of their May 1996 nuptials.
"Right before we got married, we broke up," the Live With Kelly and Ryan host told Emma Diamond and Julie Kramer on the debut episode of Betches' Comments by Celebs podcast. "We broke up and we got back together the day before we went off and eloped. Yeah, we eloped. We went to Vegas and got married."
Justin & Hailey
The couple previously dated before they split in 2016. After calling it quits, "we went through a long period of time when we weren’t friends," Baldwin told U.K. newspaper The Times. By June 2018, the pair was spotted packing on the PDA. The next month, the pair announced their engagement and then they got married twice since — once at a courthouse in New York City and then a second time at a beautiful ceremony in South Carolina surrounded by friends and family.
Gigi & Zayn
After two years of dating, Gigi Hadid and former One Direction singer Zayn Malik split in March 2018. A few sightings followed in April and May, but in a June 2018 Instagram Story posted by Hadid, the two were clearly cuddling — a quiet confirmation, perhaps?
Since then, the two have gotten back together after announcing really exciting news: they're going to be parents!
Hadid confirmed in April 2020 that she's expecting a child with Malik on The Tonight Show, telling host Jimmy Fallon, "Obviously, we wish they could've announced it on our own terms, but we're very excited and happy and grateful for everyone's well-wishes and support."
Reflecting on her current situation as she continues to practice social distancing from home, Hadid said her pregnancy is a "nice silver lining to be able to be home and together and to really experience it day by day."
Dax & Kristen
Long before they became one of the most adorable couples in Hollywood — and parents to daughters Lincoln and Delta — Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard hit a rough patch and briefly split.
"We were dating for about three months," Bell explained to POPSUGAR. "He sat me down and said, 'I can't have this right now. I think you're wonderful, but I am still dating other people.' And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he had the balls to tell me we weren't in the same place."
Thankfully, Shepard quickly realized that his now-wife was the one, and confessed: "'I don't know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they're just not as interesting as you, and I don't know what I'm doing.'" And Bell still hasn't let him off the hook: "I still always remind him of when he broke up with me."
Sharon & Ozzy
The U.K. X Factor judge opened up about her relationship status on her show The Talk, putting an end to speculation that she and her estranged husband had reconciled following a split that came about after infidelity rumors plagued the couple.
"I forgive," she said before the studio audience. "It's going take a long time to trust, but we've been together 36 years, 34 of marriage ... I just can't think of my life without him."
With that, she added a little levity, calling Ozzy "a dirty dog" and saying, "He's gonna pay big."
Patrick & Jillian
Things are looking up for Patrick Dempsey and his formerly estranged wife Jillian. The pair went their separate ways after the Grey's Anatomy star's wife filed for divorce in January 2015. But the actor, whose commitment to the racetrack is said to have been a major issue for the couple, confirmed he and his wife's decision to reconcile in an interview with ES Magazine. "You have to work at everything," he said. "And you cannot do everything. Something has to be sacrificed."
Pink & Carey
Marriage is work – as Pink and her motocross hubby Carey Hart proved to be true when they split after two years of marriage in 2008 (without officially divorcing) only to begin "dating" again in 2009, which seemed to have worked for the pair; they welcomed daughter Willow in 2011 and son Jameson in 2016.
Gabrielle & Dwyane
After getting together in 2009, Gabrielle Union and retired NBA star Dwyane Wade went on a break in April 2013 before becoming engaged in December 2013 and tying the knot in September 2014.
"We kind of took a step back," Wade said of their reconciliation during an appearance on The Tonight Show. "We supported each other, but we took a step back for a little while. At the end of day, we came back together and said, 'Listen, we want to continue this. We want to try to continue to get better each day.'"
Adam & Behati
For the Maroon 5 frontman, it took dating someone else to realize Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo was the one. Following the couple's brief breakup, Levine broke it off with fellow VS model Nina Agdal – who he had been dating at the time – and promptly proposed to Prinsloo. "Famous last words, 'I'll never get married,'" Levine recalled on The Tonight Show in 2013. "I still don't necessarily think you have to get married unless you meet someone that makes you want to marry them. And then you marry them and it's wonderful."
The couple tied the knot in 2014, welcomed daughter Dusty Rose in 2016 and daughter Gio Grace in 2018.
Justin & Jessica
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel amicably split in March 2011 – four years after first being linked together – but the break was quick; the couple got back together in August and were engaged December 2011.
"She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life," Timberlake said of Biel, whom he asked to marry him during the couple's annual vacation to Montana.
The couple welcomed their first child, Silas, in April 2015.
Will & Kate
While we're all quick to fantasize about the perfection that is Prince William and Princess Kate's marriage, it hadn't always been so flawless. Four years before tying the knot in a lavish 2011 ceremony, the pair split in April 2007. But the break was a mere bump in the road for the couple, who are now parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
