As a radio personality, Casey Kasem was known to the public for his voice. But on Saturday, some of his closest loved ones gathered privately to remember him as a father and friend.

“To have all of his family, friends and coworkers come together to remember and pay tribute to him was beautiful,” the legendary deejay’s daughter Julie Kasem told PEOPLE of the service, which followed Kasem’s death on June 15, Father’s Day. He was 82.

Approximately 200 people gathered at the Bel Air Presbyterian Church, where the service included speeches by Kasem’s three adult children from his first marriage, his brother and close friends.

Kasem’s second wife, Jean, and her daughter with Kasem, Liberty, did not attend, Kasem family spokesman Danny Deraney told TheWrap.

Kasem’s death came after an eight-month family feud over Kasem’s care that pitted Julie and her siblings against Jean.

Choosing to focus on the positive rather than the drama of the past, Julie Kasem said she was pleased with the moving tribute to her father.

“It was a heartwarming celebration of my dad’s life.”
