She’s out on tour, planning a wedding, and even managing to watch American Idol – but what does Carrie Underwood like to do when she finally gets to see her long-distance fiancé, Canadian hockey star Mike Fisher?

“We really don’t do anything!” Underwood said with a laugh at Bideawee animal shelter in New York City Tuesday, where she was promoting her partnership with the Pedigree Adoption Drive. “Generally when we’re together it’s such a short amount of time. We kind of just keep to ourselves.”

As for the other man in her life, her beloved Rat Terrier, Ace, Underwood, 27, says he’ll play a key role in her upcoming nuptials.

“He’ll be one of the ring bearers,” she said of Ace. Though his co-ring bearer may be the one actually carrying the goods. “I don’t know if I’ll put the ring on him,” she added. “I don’t know if he’ll run away with it or eat it or something!”

Asked if caring for her pup is preparing her for parenthood, Underwood revealed, “I definitely think I have some motherly instincts and hopefully he gets me ready for stuff like that. [But] not anytime soon!”

Especially since she has other important pursuits on her agenda, like finalizing her wedding dress. The singer won’t reveal the designer but calls the gown, “simple and glamorous at the same time.”
