Caroline Kennedy's Profile in Courage

Hilda Solis, a Democratic state senator from California who helped win environmental protections for minority communities, was awarded the 11th John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award on Monday at Boston’s Kennedy Library. Solis was presented her award, which spotlights elected officials who have withstood powerful opposition to do the right thing, by Sen. Edward Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, the daughter of the late President for whom the award is named. “Her clear sense of mission has made her an extraordinary legislator,” Schlossberg said of Solis, the first woman to be so honored. Schlossberg also mentioned her late brother, John Kennedy Jr., at the ceremony. “No matter how much we miss John,” she said, “I know he’s smiling on this award.”
