Caroline Kennedy Speaks
In her first public appearance since her brother’s death in July, Caroline Kennedy made only a brief reference to John F. Kennedy Jr., honoring his commitment to public service. “There are a few people I’d like to salute. The first is my brother, John, who brought his own sense of purpose and idealism to public service, which I wish we can all continue,” Caroline said in Boston on Monday at a dinner marking the 20th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. Retired Gen. Colin L. Powell, one of the evening’s guest speakers, offered a more extensive remembrance of John. “I also feel the presence of John Kennedy Jr.’s legacy, who dedicated himself to the proposition that we owe so much to our country. And let’s make sure we keep that truth alive and burning in our hearts.” His comments drew a standing ovation from the crowd of 300.
