It's a Royal Couple Showdown! Will and Kate vs. Carl Philip and Sofia
If these two pairs were ever to meet (what a double date that would make!), we know what Kate and Carl would chat about: art. Both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke of Värmland focused on art during their time at university. Prince Carl Philip studied design both at home in Sweden and at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, and Princess Kate majored in art history at the University of St. Andrews, where she met Prince William.
Carl can bond with Kate about art, but if he wants to hit it off with William, their shared military past will make for the perfect talking point. Both princes spent a number of years serving their respective nations in the military – Prince William in the Royal Air Force, and Prince Carl Phillip in the Swedish Royal Navy. Neither prince is still an active member of the military.
Both of these royal men regularly engage in some high-adrenaline pastimes – car racing and helicopter piloting – and Prince William does his for a living! The English royal works as an air ambulance pilot near his family home in Norfolk. Carl Phillip's hobby, car racing, may keep him closer to ground, but is still just as action-packed. Earlier this month, he and another driver collided during the opening race of the Swedish Touring Car Championship, according to Royalista. He'll compete in the finals this weekend.
Despite headlines swirling about upcoming engagements for years, both couples spent a long time as boyfriend and girlfriend before taking things further. Sofia and Carl announced their engagement five years after they first met in 2009, and William and Kate were together for a nearly eight years before tying the knot in 2011.
What to get the couple who has everything? Both royal duos know the answer. In lieu of gifts, Sofia and Carl are requesting charitable donations in honor of their wedding, just like Will and Kate did back in 2011. (I mean, when you live in a palace, chances are, you already have a toaster.)
