It’s been nearly a month since her fiancé popped the question, but bride-to-be Candice Accola is still basking in newly-engaged bliss.

“I can’t even think about [the wedding] yet,” the Vampire Diaries star, 26, told PEOPLE at Midori’s Happy Hour Style Event Thursday evening at The London. “We’re just enjoying the engagement with our friends and family right now.”

Accola, who is the new face of the melon liqueur brand, met fiancé Joseph King (guitarist for the band The Fray) two years ago at a Superbowl event – but she was too shy initially to make a move.

“I was too chicken to give him my number, so Nina [Dobrev] did,” she said, laughing.

As for the beautiful engagement bling her future husband presented her after his “very surprising” proposal, the actress says King’s taste was spot on.

“I never wear jewelry very often,” she said. “He knows I wear a lot of vintage and he definitely consulted with some of my girls.”

And though she hasn’t begun planning her big day, the actress can’t completely guarantee she won’t turn into a bridezilla.

“I stress out over just planning a dinner party, so it’s been kind of a running joke with my friends,” Accola said. “But I think I always hoped more for the kind of man I would be with rather than the kind of wedding I would have. I’m just so excited and grateful.”
