We’ve all heard of designated drivers. But, in the wake of New York’s OpSail, in which ships from all nations cruised the Hudson River on July 4th, Anheuser-Busch looked into some designated skippers — sober captains who might steer less-than-sober crews, if need be. Conducting a poll into boat safety for the beer people, the Data Development Corporation discovered that Captain Stubing of “The Love Boat” was the favored designated celebrity skipper, selected by 38% of those Americans polled. He was followed by Captain Kirk from “Star Trek” (26%), the Skipper from “Gilligan’s Island” (22%) and Captain Kangaroo (9%). And who would those Americans polled like to be stranded on a deserted island with? They picked the cast of “Baywatch,” hands down.
