The 13-year-old was pronounced dead last Thursday after the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to a medical emergency at the family’s Maryland home.
Caleb’s mother, Katie, originally said that her son died of natural causes, but on Monday, his parents revealed that he likely suffered from an undetected medical condition, though they did not elaborate on what that might be.
“Caleb’s death has raised many questions about how and why this could happen to a seemingly healthy boy,” the family wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Sadly, tests have confirmed today that Caleb passed away from an undetected medical condition.
“We’ll have more definitive answers in the coming weeks but ask that you help us celebrate his life instead of focus on his death.”
The family also announced that they plan to live-stream Caleb’s memorial service at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police said yesterday they did not suspect foul play in the teen’s death. “Nothing appeared to be criminal, nothing was suspicious and there was no foul play,” Director of Media Relations Ryan Frashure told PEOPLE Monday.
