Cage Clears Calendar

Scheduling conflicts originally caused Nicolas Cage to walk away from “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” but the star is once again considering playing the lead role, reports Variety. The film, an adaptation of Louis de Berniere’s novel to be directed by Roger Michell (“Notting Hill”), is a sweeping love story set on an idyllic Greek isle during World War II. Cage first entered negotiations to star in the picture nearly three months ago. It’s not clear what scheduling conflicts have been resolved since those talks folded last month.
