Still fighting an infection and recovering from pneumonia, Brooke Mueller has improved enough to be released from a Los Angeles hospital.

“I picked her up [Monday night] and brought her to a friend’s house in Los Angeles where we will stay until we decide what we are going to do and where we will go,” her mother, Moira Fiore, tells PEOPLE.

A source close to Mueller, 32, says that she’ll soon check into a spa to get help with stress reduction and psychological counseling.

“The doctors in ICU told Brooke that if she wants to get better she has to reduce stress and get a lot of R&R in the coming weeks,” a source close to Mueller tells PEOPLE. “Her mom thinks she needs some time away from Charlie [Sheen] and Los Angeles to get her head together.”

Another source says that the couple’s twin sons will stay with Sheen while Mueller is recuperating.

Even though the Two And a Half Men star visited his wife daily for nearly a week while she was in the hospital and “was great,” Fiore wants her daughter to spend some time without him.

“She wants Brooke to get well physically and mentally,” the first source tells PEOPLE.

Sheen was allowed to have contact with Mueller while she was in the hospital despite a protective order against him stemming from his domestic violence arrest on Christmas Day. The protective order remains in place now that Mueller has checked out of the hospital.

A hearing is set for Feb. 8 in Aspen, Colo, to modify the order.
