With Charlie Sheen’s battle against his ex-wife Denise Richards hitting an all time low, his fiancée Brooke Mueller says they are trying to stay positive.

“We just focus on our love and we have faith in the truth – and we know that will come out,” Mueller told PEOPLE Thursday at the opening of the James Perse store in Beverly Hills.

The legal wrangling between Sheen and Richards has lately taken a turn for the worse. In a recent filing, Richards, 36, alleged that Sheen’s engagement to Mueller is nothing but a media stunt, based on what she says Mueller told her. Sheen is asking for the ability to choose his own child care providers for daughters Sam, 3, and Lola, 2, when they are with him.

“We’d like to get away from it all, and we feel sometimes that we would love a vacation,” Mueller, 29, says about herself and the Two and a Half Men star, 41, to whom she’s been engaged since July. “But his work schedule doesn’t really permit it right now.”

As for how Mueller and Sheen are coping with the legal battle, she says, “Just focusing on our love, and we have faith in what we know is true … We’re focused on our relationship and the kids.”

When it comes to socializing, Mueller says, “Couples outings are few and far between. But we do go out on dates with Rebecca [Gayheart] and Eric [Dane], those are close friends of ours.”

Mueller is a real-estate investor who was introduced to Sheen by Gayheart in 2006, after Richards filed for divorce from Sheen.

Asked about their wedding plans, Mueller said, “Right now we haven’t decided to take on any big projects at this point … Hopefully when things calm down, we’ll be able to focus a little bit more on that.”

As for Mueller’s next project? Learning to cook, she says.

“I’m hearing that it helps you enjoy the moment and it’s some sort of meditation,” she says. “We could use that.”
