Britney Spears’s pregnancy announcement on Tuesday came amid tabloid reports that she was rushed to a hospital near her vacation home in Destin, Fla. and spent 48 hours under a doctor’s surveillance – but a source tells PEOPLE that the expectant mom’s condition was not serious.

“It was a minor scare,” the source tells PEOPLE. “She was fine.”

In her own posting on BritneySpears.com, the singer also tried to allay her fans’s fears: “There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”

In fact, it seems Spears is more than just fine: Seven months after she and Kevin Federline wed in a top-secret L.A ceremony on Sept. 18, the singer is on her way to achieving what she has called her “ultimate goal.” As she told PEOPLE two days after her wedding last year, “I want to be a young mom. Next year, at 23, I’m so there.”

On Thursday, there was more good news for Spears and Federline: It was announced that their yet-to-be-named reality show on UPN will debut at 9 p.m. on May 17 with an hourlong episode. The show, mostly made up of private home movie footage, will follow the couple through their courtship, engagement and wedding.

Aside from preparing for the show, Spears has been getting a lot of parental practice playing stepmom to Federline’s children (with his ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, 28), Kori, 2, and Kaleb, 9 months. “Britney adores Kori,” says her assistant Felicia Culotta. “She talks to her in baby talk and she just gets the giggles and says, ‘You’re funny!'”

Spears’s cousin Laura Lynne Covington says, “She talks about Kori nonstop, and every time I see her she always has new pictures to show me. She’s always loved children.”

In fact, according to Federline’s father, Mike, the couple’s first bundle of joy could be just the first in an ever-growing family: “We are all about our grandkids,” he told PEOPLE last year. “I hope they have four or five.”
