After 12 years and six kids together, Angelina Jolie files for divorce from Brad Pitt just after their two-year wedding anniversary. Subscribe now for the real story behind the split, only in PEOPLE.

Brad Pitt was at the Falls International Airport in International Falls, Minnesota, on Sept. 14 – the day of his alleged mid-flight argument with Angelina Jolie and their son Maddox, the Koochiching County Sheriff told Fox 9.

Sheriff Perryn Hedlund told the news outlet that both Pitt and Jolie were at the small airport on the Minnesota-Canada border.

Hedlund did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

A Falls International Airport employee also told Fox 9 that a Delta Airlines crew member mentioned seeing Pitt at the airport that day. The worker also said that Pitt passed through Falls International “occasionally.”

The airport denies any incident occurred, however.

“The Falls International Airport values the privacy of our customers so our only comment on the event that allegedly occurred recently is to say that in the last 10 days there have been no incidents, accidents or out-of-the-ordinary events,” Falls International Airport director Thor Einarson said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Pitt is accused of getting physical and being verbally abusive with son Maddox, 15, while on the family’s private plane.

The incident is being investigated by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services after being reported to them anonymously. The case has also been referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation under special aircraft jurisdiction, as the alleged incident occurred mid-flight.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PEOPLE that Pitt “put his hands on” Maddox, 15, during an argument but “did not hit his child” and “no one was physically harmed.”

The source said that Pitt “was drunk, and there was an argument between him and Angelina.”

Jolie filed for divorce on Monday in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences. She requested sole physical custody of the six children.
