WATCH: Boy's First Pitch Turns into Surprise Tearjerker When Deployed Dad Returns
Watch Austin Sides’s day go from a home run to a grand slam in less than 5 seconds.
On Tuesday, the young baseball fan was invited to throw out the first pitch for the Kansas City Royals’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the video, Sides steps up to the pitcher’s mound, excited to be at the center of Kauffman Stadium, and completes an impressive lob to the catcher. But Sides’s all-star moment doesn’t end there.
As the catcher runs up to the mound to congratulate Sides on his throw, he takes off his mask. It’s Sides’s father, Air Force Major Robert Sides! Until this moment, Sides thought his father was still deployed for active duty overseas. With help from the Royals, Major Sides was able to turn this big league game of catch into a surprise reunion for his son. Homecomings don’t get much sweeter than this.
