Bobby Brown has spoken out to clarify his earlier comments that his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was “awake” at a Georgia care facility.

The R&B singer, 46, issued a statement Monday through his lawyer Christopher Brown, in which he confirms that the 22-year-old’s condition has changed since she was transferred from Emory University Hospital to the rehabilitation center, and that there has in fact been improvement.

“Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life,” Brown’s attorney wrote in the statement obtained by PEOPLE. “However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come.”

Brown also said in the statement, “We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina and God is hearing our prayers.”

His wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, added that her husband was in “an emotional state” when he told a crowd that Bobbi Kristina was “awake” during a concert in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday.

“She’s watching me,” Brown told the audience, drawing thunderous applause. It was unclear at the time whether his daughter was actually responsive.

His sister Tina Brown also fueled speculation surrounding Bobbi Kristina’s condition after she wrote on Facebook on Sunday, “She woke up and is no longer on life support.” The message has since been deleted.

Bobbi Kristina, who is the daughter of Brown and the late Whitney Houston, is still in a longterm care facility in Georgia and her prognosis remains unclear.

Brown was photographed meeting with Bobbi Kristina’s doctor outside the facility on Monday (photo above), when he spent several hours by his daughter’s side.

On Sunday night, a source close to the Browns told PEOPLE that family members had not received any update on Bobbi Kristina’s status.

Another family source said Monday that her “condition has not changed since she was admitted to [the] hospital.”

Bobbi Kristina was first hospitalized Jan. 31 after being discovered unconscious in the bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia, home. In February, doctors attempted to remove Bobbi Kristina from her medically induced coma, but put her back into the comatose state after she experienced violent seizures.
