Bobbi Kristina Brown's Cousin Comes to Nick Gordon's Defense: 'He's Been Exploited'

Jerod Brown speaks out in support of Bobbi Kristina Brown's boyfriend, who is reportedly in rehab

Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s cousin, Jerod Brown, has publicly come forward with support for Nick Gordon, even as the rest of Bobbi Kristina’s family has become increasingly vocal about their disapproval of Gordon.

Jerod shared a post on Facebook on Sunday, claiming that, despite insinuations from both Bobby Brown and Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Leloah Brown, Nick has been working closely with the police as they continued to investigate the near drowning of Whitney Houston‘s daughter.

“Nick has cooperated with the police department, he has cooperated with my uncle Bobby’s request,” Jerod wrote. “He has given my family members as much information as he can.

“He has been exploited on national television with hidden cameras that he had no idea about. He has given Kristina CPR which is one of the reasons why she is not dead till this day. He has been ridiculed and accused without any concrete evidence, yet he still hasn’t gotten the chance to visit his girl. If everyone truly believes that Nick is the blame for this situation wouldn’t you think he would already be locked up by now.”

Jerod’s post came shortly after TMZ published an interview with Leolah, who accused Gordon of “manipulating” Dr. Phil when he made an appearance on The Dr. Phil Show on March 11 in an interview that turned in into an intervention. (Sources tell PEOPLE that the “devastated” Gordon checked into rehab following the taping.)

Last Sunday, Leolah also claimed that Nick was under investigation for Bobbi Kristina’s near drowning and that there was “strong evidence of foul play.” Police had previously confirmed to PEOPLE that they were opening an investigation into Bobbi Kristina’s drowning, but did not say if Gordon was being considered a suspect.

While Leolah didn’t have many kind words for Gordon in her TMZ interview, she was much more critical of Bobbi Kristina’s other aunt, Pat Houston, calling her a “money-hungry beast” and saying she believed she was was responsible for Bobbi Kristina’s state leading up to her near drowning. Jerod also made a similar claim about Pat, insinuating that she had something to do with Whitney’s passing and that Bobbi Kristina was suspicious of her.

Jerod has been one of the most vocal family members since Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious in her bathtub on Jan. 31. In February, Bobby issued a statement through his lawyers, saying that he needed to be “disregarded” and was not in communication with Bobby or the Houston family.

Gordon and Bobby engaged in a public feud in February, when Gordon made a public plea to see Bobbi Kristina in the hospital. Through his lawyers, Bobby said that Gordon had to meet unspecified conditions in order to be granted access. Gordon’s lawyers responded in turn, saying that they had advised their client to not meet Bobby’s conditions.
