Bo Obama: How I Spent My Summer Vacation!
Bo unwinds with a tennis ball in the White House's Rose Garden — a great start to June! It seems the First Pup is taking after the First Family – the President and First Lady have been known to enjoy a match or two, most recently in Martha's Vineyard. Maybe Bo served as ball boy?
Any time is playtime for the First Dog! Bo waits patiently for dad Barack Obama to wrap up some business outside the Oval Office in June so the pair can squeeze in a round of fetch before the President's June trip to the Middle East.
BO KNOWS BASEBALL
Who doesn't want to collect this dog? Like all presidential pets, Bo has an official baseball card, which was released to the public in June. On the front is this handsome pic, and on the back are his stats — did you know his favorite food is tomatoes? All children visiting the White House take home this mini version of Bo. That's a souvenir we wouldn't trade!
MOM & ME
The First Lady dutifully walks her pup on June 14 in Washington, D.C. Though daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 8, promised to take care of their new pet, Michelle Obama tells a different story: "Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out," she told reporters in April. "So for everyone who has a child asking for a puppy – you have to want the dog. As I do. I love my Bo."
Where's Bo's lei? The first puppy walks to a Congressional luau on the White House's South Lawn on June 25 with the First Lady and daughter Malia. Guests dined on barbecued baby back ribs and Kalua pig – we hope they brought Bo a doggie bag!
He may not have been born on the Fourth of July, but Bo gets into the Independence Day spirit on the White House lawn with his red (tongue), white (fur) and blue (leash).
A pooped Bo poses on the White House floor in this official photo, taken July 27. But don't be fooled: Bo is no complacent puppy! Michelle Obama once called her dog – who's managed to wake up the President – "kind of crazy." "It was like 10 o'clock," recalls Michelle. "Everybody was asleep and we hear all this barking and jumping around. The President and I came out [of our room] and we thought somebody was out there. And it was just Bo. He was playing with his ball."
His people are home! Bo gets all riled up on Aug. 17 as the Obamas arrive back at the White House after a family trip to the Grand Canyon. The little guy may have been left behind for that vacation, but for the first family's Martha's Vineyard retreat this week, Bo was there to receive a hero's welcome.
WHAT A TRIP!
Bo relaxes for a moment after getting off a Marine helicopter in Martha's Vineyard on Aug 23. While the Obamas' plans for their weeklong getaway included tennis, sightseeing and dinners out, Bo had other ideas – reading and naps!
