Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani may appear to come from two different worlds, but fans of The Voice have watched the coaches exchange cute and easy banter all season long.

Now officially a couple, the country star, 39, and the rock-pop princess, 46, actually have much more in common than first meets the eye.

“Those in their inner circles saw the chemistry and spark between them,” one insider close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “That was undeniable.”

The two bonded over their broken marriages this year (Shelton finalized his divorce from Miranda Lambert in July and Stefani announced her split from Gavin Rossdale in August), but also have similar personalities.

“Gwen is a sweet, gentle person and Blake is too,” says the insider. “They’re both down-to-earth and have light personalities. It makes sense.”

The new couple made their debut as a couple at a CMA Awards after party on Nov. 4, one day after flying into Nashville together.
