Nik Keswani may be a vine superstar but he’s first and foremost a big brother. And when it comes to his youngest sister Devina, a transgender 6-year-old girl, he’s of course protective.

On a recent episode of PEOPLE.com’s The Keswanis: A Most Modern Family ‘Big Nik’ takes Devina to ice cream and asks about bullying. And though her first reaction is that she doesn’t bully anyone Nik responds, “No, how do you feel about people bullying you?” And before Devina answers Nik states, “I’ll make sure no one bullies you.”

Learning Devina was transgendered wasn’t easy for Nik. “It was hard to accept at first that my little brother was gone,” he says.

“I never really got to do many sports as a kid,” (Nik, 17, suffers from a rare form of dwarfism) “so I thought she could be the person I never was,” he says. “But it’s not about me.”

Instead Nik embraces his transgender sister challenging her to dance battles and affectionately enjoying the “floating ball of energy and noise,” that is Devina.
