Beyoncé Knowles has been making the rounds during the current runway season, racking up front-row appearances at high-profile collections in New York and Milan.

Now we know why: The pop starlet may have been boning up on the apparel business for her own foray into the fashion fray.

Working with her stylist (and mother) Tina Knowles, the Destiny’s Child frontwoman will be debuting two clothing collections in 2004, according to a Women’s Wear Daily story picked up by the Associated Press.

Hip-hop stars have developed a solid track record in the crossover clothing biz, with Jay-Z, Russell Simmons and Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs all fronting their own labels. The trend has spread even further in recent years, with Jennifer Lopez, Thalia, Gwen Stefani and Eve taking the stage with their own fashionable acts.

Beyoncé’s double debuts will include an urban, hip-hop line of T-shirts and jeans, as well as a more feminine collection of dresses and separates.

“We want to bring some of the couture look to a broader public,” Beyoncé tells WWD. “People my age love fashion and want to dress in designer clothes, but can’t afford it.”

Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s father and promoter, Mathew Knowles, also has been in the news recently for his own business deal. The famous father sold his music management company, Music World Entertainment, to the London-based music group Sanctuary for $10 million, the BBC reported.

The company, which manages Destiny’s Child as well as members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, will continue to be based in Houston.
