All of Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston's Best Bromantic Moments
The dreamy British duo have been friends since meeting on the set of War Horse in 2010
Hiddlebatch is the British bromance of our dreams.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston first met while filming the 2010 drama War Horse, and have been delighting us all with their mutual adoration ever since.
For proof that their Hollywood friendship is the real deal, look no further than these too-cute bestie moments:
When Cumberbatch was protective of his bro’s personal life
The Sherlock star recently interviewed Hiddleston for an Interview Magazine cover story, and made a point of declaring any questions about his headline-fueling former romance to be off-limits.
“And there’s another weight of us being in the public eye, which is this presumption that, because your work and your promotion work is very public, your private life should be, too. And, without getting into a huge debate, I just want to say that I’m not going to ask questions about my friend’s personal life just because there are unsolicited photographs of him and a certain someone, in a relationship or together. I’m not going to get into that. So that door is closed, dear reader,” Cumberbatch said.
When Cumberbatch gushed about Hiddleston
During a joint interview for War Horse, Benedict couldn’t help but share some admiring words about his equally charming costar. “He is Errol Flynn reincarnated. He’s an action man, he’s got the looks, he’s an incredibly talent actor, and he’s one of the finest of our generation, and a friend. I’m very proud to know him,” the Dr. Strange actor gushed.
“Darling, thank you,” Hiddleston responded with a gentle pat on his companion’s shoulder.
And when Hiddleston gushed about Cumberbatch
Hiddleston returned Cumberbatch’s affection in a 2013 interview with The Toronto Star: “He’s one of my best friends. It’s as simple as that,” he said. “It’s funny how people have framed us together in a way. He’s just a great, amazing, brilliant actor.”
When Cumberbatch did a spot-on Hiddleston impression
Among the many Imitations Cumberbatch delivered for MTV was a flawless take on his bestie’s soothing cadence.
When Hiddleston said they are "friends for life"
“Benedict is one of my best friends, we live around the corner from each other in London,” the Thor star told ET Canada in 2013. “We met on Spielberg’s War Horse. We spent a summer with Mr. Spielberg and became friends for life.
“It’s nice to talk about stuff and share things,” he added about their friendship. “You have these exciting and incredible experience and it’s nice to have someone who is going through to chat with and ask how’s it for you?”
When they hugged it out
While chatting with MTV at Comic-Con 2016, Cumberbatch revealed that he shared a special moment with his fellow Marvel star after Hiddleston was asked if he would be helping him prepare for Dr. Strange.
“We hugged it out. I saw him earlier and we were catching up and he said that. I was like, ‘It’s so sweet that they’re asking you to look out for me like a baby brother,’ ” said Cumberbatch.
When Hiddleston was "very happy" that Cumberbatch scored the lead in Dr. Strange
“I’m very happy about it and I gave him no tips. He needs no advice from me,” Hiddleston confidently said about the big casting news during his Crimson Peak press junket. “I don’t know much about Dr. Strange but I’m sure he’ll be excellent.”
When Cumberbatch admitted they get together for cheekbone polishing parties
In perhaps his most revealing answer during his Reddit Ask Me Anything, Cumberbatch confirmed something we all suspected about the actor and his chiseled friends: that they get together and admire their cheekbones together.
“Do you, Matt Smith and Tom Hiddleston have cheek bone polishing parties?” a Reddit user inquired.
“We like nothing more than buffing our Zygoma,” Cumberbatch replied. “And imagining a horny time traveling long overcoat purple scarf-wearing super sleuth nordic legend f— fantasy. Get to work on that, Internet.”
Hiddleston later addressed the revelation during an interview with Yahoo. “Zygoma is a word I didn’t know existed. That’s the Cumberbatch vocabulary for you.”
“Benedict. That’s just asking for trouble, isn’t it?” Hiddleston added after reading Cumberbatch’s full confession. “That’s a mischievous thing to do. Well, I’ll be having words with him about that,” he joked.

When Hiddleston taught Cumberbatch about ancient Greek
The multi-linguist gave Cumberbatch a little Greek lesson during a War Horse interview: He quoted Sophocles’ Electra and even told Cumberbatch about the origins of the word “hippopotamus,” because that’s what friends are for. (Jump to 1:11 in the video above for the swoon-worthy moment.)
When Cumberbatch gave his blessing for Hiddleston to step into his Crimson Peak role
Hiddleston took over as leading man after Cumberbatch dropped out of 2015’s Crimson Peak, but the shake-up was no big deal for the always amicable pair.
“The thing is we’re really good friends, and as soon as [director Guillermo del Toro] called, I called Benedict and I said, ‘This is happening,’ and he was like, ‘Amazing!’ So, I had his blessing,” Hiddleston told BuzzFeed.
