Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner stayed under the radar with their three children following their divorce announcement on June 30 at a very secluded location: their home in a private Bahamas resort community.

The family headed to the lavish Baker’s Bay Golf and Ocean Club in the Bahamas, where they own property and – in exclusive photos posted on PEOPLE – were spotted stealing a private moment together on Friday. The resort community boasts six miles of pristine, pink-sand beaches, a deep-water marina, an 18-hole championship golf course, a poolside spa and more.

As PEOPLE previously reported, Affleck, 42, and Garner, 43, sought refuge at the owners-only club to protect their children – Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3 – from the public eye after they broke the news of their split last week.

“They were together as a family that day,” a source told PEOPLE. “The family felt it was important to be together, and they were together. The family is united and, no matter what, will protect the kids.

“This isn’t easy for anyone and it’s devastating to Ben, too. He loves his family and will always put them first.”

The family didn’t have to go far for their day-to-day needs – within the 585-acre community lies a village with a restaurant, bar, retail shops and a market that sells luxury foods, fine wines and groceries. Any items not on hand at the club, situated along the Atlantic Ocean and Sea of Abaco, can easily be delivered to residents.

Baker’s Bay also has an on-island medical clinic with a doctor and nurse, as well as its own fire and police facilities, according to the official sales brochure.

Affleck and Garner were privately separated for several months before going public with their split, a source told PEOPLE, but they’ve been putting on a united front in recent weeks.

The two parents plan to share custody of their children and continue living together on their estate in L.A. They also intend to seek mediation as they move forward with splitting their assets.

“Ben was a family man when he could be and his kids adore him,” said another source. “He traveled a lot but when he is with the kids he’s really with them, taking them out for treats, having fun with them. And there is nothing more important to Jen than being a good mom.”
