7 Long-Awaited Movie Sequels We're Already Lining Up For
"Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!" We'll be hearing those words again when Winona Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice 2. "Little kids [are fans]," Ryder told talk show host Seth Meyers of the original 1988(!) film. "I love that. I'm so touched by it because there's so much CGI and Middle-earth and they love Beetlejuice. It must mean there's something really pure about it." While the new movie's plot is being kept under wraps, we're already singing "Day-O" over the news that Oscar winner Michael Keaton is set to revisit the film's titular character.
MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2
Windex will shine on the big screen once again when the hit 2002 family-centric film returns for a sequel in March 2016. This time around, married couple Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett) are dealing with an angsty teen daughter and a rough patch in their own relationship. "I gotta tell you, I finished [reading the script] with my jaw on the floor," Corbett told USA Today. "In my opinion, Nia [who wrote both films] made it funnier than the first one, more touching and better on a lot of levels."
Derek Zoolander, a dad? That's one plot point of the February 2016 sequel to the Ben Stiller comedy that introduced us to the Blue Steel 15 years ago (our selfies have never looked better, BTW). Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor and Will Ferrell will also be back for the modeling-world sendup, which includes appearances by Kristen Wiig, Penélope Cruz and – wait for it – Justin Bieber.
TOP GUN 2
Get ready to go back into the danger zone: a follow-up to the 1986 action film about U.S. Navy fighter pilots is finally taking flight! While Tom Cruise (aka Maverick) hasn't confirmed whether he feels enough of a need for speed to get back into the cockpit, the action star definitely sounds interested. "I’d like to fly those jets again," he told Extra, "but we’ve got to do all the jets practical – no CGI on the jets.”
After close to a decade, the second installment of the global phenomenon that is Avatar is slated to hit theaters in December 2017. Much like the first, Avatar 2 will carry moviegoers on an emotional journey – one that has already been felt by the cast, including star Zoë Saldana. "I'm excited for it," she told PEOPLE after getting a sneak peek at the sequel's sketches and sculptures. "You have no idea, I can't wait to shoot it. I can't wait to walk like I have a tail." Good news, Zoë: a third and fourth installment are also in the works.
The first two Barbershop movies are not only hilarious but also deliver an unforgettable ensemble of stars – and the third film is no exception. As of now, Barbershop 3 boasts a cast that includes Common, Regina Hall, Eve, Tyga and Nicki Minaj as a hairdresser named Draya. Let's just say Feb. 19, 2016, needs to get here, stat.
Kindergarten Cop 2
Class is almost back in session! Arnold Schwarzenegger played an undercover cop posing as a teacher in 1990's Kindergarten Cop, and while the action star won't appear in the film's sequel – The Expendables' Dolph Lundgren will be taking over – we're sure the follow-up will be as adorable and entertaining as its predecessor.
