Barack Obama, senior advisor to President Kanye West” has a nice ring to it.

At a Democratic National Committee event in San Francisco on Saturday, Obama gave some advice to West, who performed at the event and recently declared his intention to run for president in 2020.

“You’ve got to deal with strange characters who behave as if they are on a reality TV show,” the president said. “Saying you have a ‘beautiful dark twisted fantasy’ – that’s what’s known as ‘off-message’ in politics.”

He jokingly asked the audience, “Do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?”

5 Moments We Can’t Stop Talking About From the VMAs

West announced that he will be running for president in 2020 while accepting the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in August. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon have all already expressed interest in serving as the 38-year-old rapper’s running mate.

West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in September that her husband’s plans for 2020 are definitely not a joke.

“He’s serious,” she told DeGeneres. “I believe he is serious and I know that if he puts his mind to something he’ll do his best, and it’s been fascinating just hearing all the conversation that’s gone on since that announcement – I don’t know if that was planned and I just didn’t know about it or if he just came up with that idea then and there.”
