The balloon that carried Swiss psychiatrist Bertrand Piccard and his British co-pilot, Brian Jones, around the world for nearly 20 days will be retrieved from its landing spot in the Egyptian desert and shipped back to Switzerland, Swiss diplomat Pascal Decosterd said Wednesday. An Egyptian army helicopter rescued the pilots — who were the first to sail around the world in a hot-air balloon — but their balloon, the Breitling Orbiter 3, was left in the sand. It will be dismantled and brought by trucks to Cairo by Friday, when the parts will be taken to the Mediterranean port of Alexandria to be shipped to Switzerland.
