Baldwin 'All Aboard'

The latest TV show to get the big-screen treatment — in a transition made popular by “The Untouchables,” “The Addams Family,” “The Wild, Wild West” — is “Thomas the Tank Engine.” Variety reports that Alec Baldwin, Peter Fonda and Mara Wilson (“Matilda”) are set to hop aboard the movie project, with Baldwin playing the magical Mr. Conductor. Fonda will take on the role of Grandpa Burnett Stone. Wilson will play the lead role of an 11-year-old girl who leaves the city to visit her grandfather in the countryside. Principal photography begins on the Isle of Man in early August, in preparation for the film’s July 2000 release.
