The Artist formerly known as Prince has won a lengthy copyright infringement case surrounding his symbol-shaped guitar. Chicago U.S. District Court Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer last week found no merit in the fraud and copyright infringement claims filed by guitar designer Ferdinand Pickett. Pickett said he created the guitar — which incorporates the symbols for man and woman — in 1993 and showed it to the musician, hoping he would buy it. The Artist denied ever meeting Pickett. Pickett sued for fraud in 1994 after learning the Artist was performing with a similarly shaped instrument. He amended the lawsuit in 1996 to charge copyright infringement.
