While there was plenty of singing, laughing and even a wrestling match during James Corden‘s Carpool Karaoke featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there was a life or death moment that fans did not see.
The band’s frontman Anthony Kiedis revealed he resuscitated a baby while filming the Late Late Show segment.
“We also had a dance-off, which they didn’t include, we had a dance-off after the wrestle-off, which led to an interesting, unscripted moment,” Kiedis, 53, began explaining to radio host Chris Moyles on Radio X.
“We danced off, we tied and then we were going to celebrate with some Mexican food on the corner. And a woman came out of her house, holding a child saying, ‘My baby, my baby, my baby can’t breathe!'” said the lead singer, who is dad to 8-year-old son Everly Bear.
Kiedis’ parental instincts instantly kicked in as Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer all ran to the aid of the baby.
“We all ran across the street, the woman thrust the baby into my arms, the baby was not breathing and I thought, ‘I’m gonna try and do a little baby CPR real quick, see if I can get some air in this kid,'” Kiedis explained.
“So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles came out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place, the ambulance showed up and I handed the baby over, who was now breathing and fine, and we went back to Carpool Karaoke,” he recalled.
Adding, “It was kind of a beautiful thing that we stopped for the dance off, [as] the baby needed help and we were there. The little baby looked at me the entire time until the ambulance came, little baby Nina.”
The band’s Carpool Karaoke episode now has over 10 million views on YouTube.
