Actor, heartthrob … recording star?!

Ansel Elgort has signed to Island Records, the label announced Tuesday.

“He is one of the hardest working people I know, balancing his career as an actor with his love and passion for music,” Island president and CEO David Massey said in a statement.

While most know him for his turns in The Fault in Our Stars and the Divergent series, the star, 21, has been DJ-ing and producing under the stage name “Ansolo” the past year, uploading songs to Soundcloud and even playing at major EDM festivals, including Electric Zoo and Ultra.

“My goal is just to make the records,” Elgort told Rolling Stone Tuesday. “My goal is to make the records that people know and people love that will last for more than a year. I want people to say, ‘Oh, wow, that Ansolo record … remember that one from five years ago? That one’s sick.'”

Elgort will release his debut single, “To Life,” on Sept. 18, has a dance EP in the works and will hit the road to tour on Sept. 12.

And his move to electronic music wasn’t spontaneous: He’s pals with popular producers like Nicky Romero and even worked with Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angelo, who told Details earlier this year:

“I don’t know anybody else in the world who’s succeeding so strongly in one profession and wants to start over, from Step 1, in another … And Ansel’s not falling into EDM because it’s popular. He’s great at making music. He’s more talented than a lot of the guys in the scene. As long as he maintains the drive, the sky’s the limit.”

And Angello isn’t Ansolo’s only fan: Costar Shailene Woodley backs his latest creative career move.

“Ansel is not just an actor. He’s not a musician and a producer … If he wants to climb Mount Everest or become a professional hang-glider dude, then that’s what he’s going to end up doing,” she told Details in the same March cover story.
