Celebrity Another New 'GMA' Candidate By People Staff Published on June 4, 1999 12:00 AM Share Tweet Pin Email ABC is talking to CNN veteran Jim Moret about a possible gig co-hosting “Good Morning America,” reports Variety. Moret, who anchors CNN’s primetime newscast as well as its entertainment segment “Showbiz Today,” met with ABC News executives last week to discuss the possibility of joining the ailing breakfast show, most likely as a replacement for current co-anchor Kevin Newman. Insiders say the LA-based Moret is a serious candidate for the position but caution that ABC is also talking to other journalists about the “GMA” gig, including, reportedly, preppy Jack Ford of NBC. One potential obstacle to any deal with Moret: He’s under contract to CNN for at least another year, sources say. ABC, if it decides to make an anchor change, is unlikely to wait a year before doing so, though Moret could try to get out of his contract early.
