Kelly Rowland is proving her destiny isn’t just in music. Fresh off the success of her bandmate Beyoncé Knowles in “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” the Destiny’s Child singer has landed her own big-screen role in the upcoming horror flick “Freddy vs. Jason,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Rowland will join actors Brad Renfro and Robert Englund in the New Line Cinema film (New Line, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner), in which she’ll play one of a group of friends who help launch a battle between infamous big-screen bad guys Freddy Krueger (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and Jason Vorhees (of “Friday the 13th” fame). Shooting on the film is expected to begin in September. This isn’t her first go at acting: Rowland previously appeared on TV shows such as “The Hughleys” and “Smart Guy.” So far, the ladies of Destiny’s Child have proven themselves to be survivors in Hollywood: Knowles earned raves for her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in “Austin Powers in Goldmember”; Rowland says Knowles encouraged her to try movies, too. “I remember being on the set with Beyonce on ‘Austin Powers’ and when she did (MTV’s) ‘Carmen,’ ” Rowland told MTV. “She was like, ‘You go act. I know you can do it.’ She always thought I had personality. I did a couple of TV spots and now that I’m doing a movie, I’m really excited.” With her multiplatinum pop trio on hiatus, Rowland is also working on her first solo album.
