Anna Nicole Smith’s mother cried Tuesday after meeting her 5-month-old granddaughter for the first time.

Virgie Arthur, who had received permission for the visit only hours earlier, was seen weeping in the backseat of a SUV as she left the Bahamas home Smith had shared with Howard K. Stern.

“She’s in mourning having lost her daughter and grandson both within the last five months,” Arthur’s attorney, Deborah Rose, tells the Associated Press.

Smith’s son, Daniel, 20, died in September in the Bahamas only three days after Dannielynn’s birth.

Arthur was in the Bahamas for a hearing Tuesday that Rose described as a “small technical procedure.” She is fighting for custody of Dannielynn, but on Monday a judge adjourned the custody battle until next month, leaving Dannielynn with Stern.

She is also appealing a ruling that gave Dannielynn’s court-appointed attorney permission to bury Smith in the Bahamas. Arthur wants to bury her daughter in their native Texas.

Larry Birkhead, a former Smith boyfriend who claims he is Dannielynn’s father and is also seeking custody of the child, also met the baby for the first time Sunday night. “She looks like me,” he told Access Hollywood.
