'Angel' in D.C.

Roma Downey, who plays Monica on the popular CBS series “Touched By an Angel” is headed to Capitol Hill tonight for a special preview screening of this Sunday’s episode. The storyline is especially meaningful to the actress, because it’s about a group of Catholic and Protestant teens in Northern Ireland whom Monica takes on a summer trip to the U.S. Of the episode, Downey, who grew up in Derry, Ireland, told The Washington Post: “We have the potential for 20 million people to be educated about Northern Ireland, and (it is my hope) that they can send their thoughts of peace back home.” Last night, Downey, 38, was guest of honor at a Kennedy Center fund-raiser for Project Children, an organization whose work — bringing Northern Irish teenagers to America for summer bonding sessions — inspired the “Angel” episode.
