Anderson Cooper Answers That Live! Co-Host Question We're All Wondering About
"I'm very happy at CNN," Cooper admitted
Anderson Cooper will not be throwing his hat in the ring for the vacant co-host spot on Live! with Kelly and Michael, for now.
Cooper, 48, insisted that he’s “very happy at CNN” as the host of Anderson Cooper 360, though he would love the opportunity to work alongside his close friend of over 20 years Kelly Ripa. The news anchor will reportedly be guest hosting while ABC searches for a permanent replacement for Michael Strahan, whose last day is May 13.
“Listen I love Kelly, and Kelly is the heart and soul of that show,” the The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son On Life, Love, and Loss author said during Thursday’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
“It’s gonna go on and continue to be great, and I wish Michael the best in his new endeavor,” Cooper said before WWHL host and good friend Andy Cohen pushed him for a definitive answer should he be offered the gig.
“It would be a dream to work with Kelly, but nobody’s offering anything,” Cooper admitted. The 60 Minutes correspondent has guest-co-hosted on Live! numerous times during Strahan’s four-year term.
Following the news that the retired NFL defensive linebacker was exiting the daytime show this fall to take on a full-time position at Good Morning America, Ripa looked to longtime friends Cooper and Cohen, 47, as possible replacements.
“When Regis [Philbin] left, the person Kelly wanted more than anyone else was Anderson Cooper, but he was busy launching his own talk show,” a source told PEOPLE. “Now that he’d be free, she would love it to be him.”
