An Oscar for Cruise?
He came close twice, with “Born on the 4th of July” and “Jerry Maguire.” But now Tom Cruise may finally take home an Oscar for his acting. The Los Angeles Times says Cruise’s performance in the upcoming “Magnolia” is generating “some early (and we stress early) Oscar talk.” The movie is writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson’s first film since his “Boogie Nights,” the 1997 flick about the porn movie industry. Set for release at Christmas, “Magnolia” also features several members of the “Boogie Nights” cast, including William H. Macy and Julianne Moore. Cruise’s character is described as a misogynistic leader of a cultish men’s movement called “Search and Destroy.” Sounds a bit like a stray character from “Eyes Wide Shut.”
