Remember when Amy Schumer face-planted on the red carpet for the TIME 100 gala in April, right in front of Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West?

There’s a pretty simple explanation for her fall, Schumer, 34, told Graham Norton on his show Friday: All the reporters she was talking to wanted to talk to the Wests more (“it’s like being at a party and there’s a hotter girl behind you”) – and falling was an efficient, and hilarious, way to get out of the way

“All the reporters were going crazy and it was Kim and Kanye, just standing there, owning it, being short and important” Schumer said. “And I think falling is the funniest thing, so I took a dive in front of them.”

At the time, Schumer told PEOPLE, “I asked my publicist, ‘Can I dive in front of them and act like I fell?’ And she said, ‘I can’t stop you.’ ”

Luckily, Schumer told Norton, she looked great as she fell – just like a Pantene ad – while Kim, 34, and Kanye, 37, walked right on by.

That same night Schumer had a chance to catch up with the pair, she told PEOPLE at the time.

“They were really sweet. Kim was really funny,” Schumer said. “She goes, ‘Oh my god, I was like, does this girl need help?’ She was like, ‘That was really funny.’ “
