Amy Schumer is sticking up for herself.
The Trainwreck star denied allegations of joke theft after a video was released comparing her material to other comedians’ gags.
Schumer, 34, vehemently refuted the claims on Twitter Wednesday, and also defended herself during an appearance on the Jim Norton Advice Show on Sirius XM’s Opie Radio.[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/242968693" params="visual=true&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]
“On my life, I have never and would never steal a joke,” the star tweeted. The video alleged that Schumer stole jokes from Kathleen Madigan, Wendy Liebman, Tammy Pescatelli, and the late Patrice O’Neal.
“I’m getting accused of stealing jokes and I wanted to come and talk to you about it and clear my name because I would never ever do that and never have,” Schumer told Norton during the interview.
The Inside Amy Schumer creator even offered to take a polygraph test to prove her innocence. “I would never, ever do that, and I never have,” she contined. “I have to come up with so much material for my TV show, this movie, stand-up. And I’m so careful. I will literally take a polygraph. And I just would never do that. That would be so stupid for me to do that.”[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/242970825" params="visual=true&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]
As to how the allegations and video came to be, Schumer accused Tammy Pescatelli for possibly having a part in the scandal.
“Both Kathleen and Wendy know me and they don’t believe I would do that, I think this is Tammy’s trying to get something going,” Schumer said adding, “I think [Tammy] is upset I blocked her on Twitter a couple years ago because she was unkind to my best friend, Rachel Feinstein, and I didn’t like how she treated Rachel. I don’t think she’s got much going on, this is my guess. I think people get upset by success.”
This is not the first time Schumer was accused of stealing jokes. In October, a fan noticed that both she and O’Neal had sketches about obscure sex positions. Schumer issued a response on Twitter, writing, “I never seen that Patrice bit but will watch today.”
