And the love story continues.
Giberson and Pounders, both 33, shared a “shy” crush at Sunshine Preschool in St. Petersburg, Florida, 30 years ago, but lost touch in the years to follow. That is until last year, when they found each other on the online dating site.
Reunited and deeply in love, Giberson and Pounders have now decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
After a year of dating, Pounders got down on one knee and proposed during a live taping of The View on Wednesday.
When host Candace Cameron Bure said she had a surprise for Giberson, a video of the couple’s former pre-school came on screen, and the young students were seen waving and holding a sign that read: “Amy, will you marry me?”
Giberson then turned around to see Pounders kneeling down on one knee with a ring. Stunned, Giberson simply nodded her head yes and burst into tears as the two hugged and kissed.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE immediately following the proposal, Giberson said, “I didn t expect anything! I wanted him to do it when he wanted to do it. I didn t expect that! To have the preschool – that just got my heart. It took a minute for it to sink in. I didn t know what was going on at first.”
Pounders added, “I feel great right now, I m so excited to get married! To call [her] my fianc e is just the greatest feeling in the world. Keeping it a secret was really tough though. I thought my mom was going to spill the beans!”
The bride-to-be had always wanted her proposal documented on camera, “so I figured, what better way to document it than on live television in front of the world!” Pounders shared.
The lovebirds, who have also documented their journey together on Instagram, said they want to have a “big Floridian wedding with lots of palm trees,” followed by a Caribbean cruise.
As for their fairy tale ending, Giberson said, “If you keep an open heart and an open mind, you can find your true love. You just have to believe and have faith.”
