'American Idol' Bo Bice Leaves the Hospital

The singer will need up to six weeks to recover from emergency intestinal surgery

American Idol runner-up Bo Bice has been released from a Las Vegas hospital after undergoing emergency surgery, according to a statement from the singer’s minister.

Pastor Donny Acton told reporters that Bice left Desert Springs Hospital for an undisclosed location where he will catch up on his rest, the Associated Press reports.

“It’s pretty serious stuff,” Acton said of Bice’s surgery. “(He) can still get an infection.”

The long-haired rocker was rushed to the hospital Aug. 18, the day before he was scheduled to perform in Las Vegas on the American Idols Live Tour, and underwent surgery to remove an intestinal blockage. Acton said the singer might take up to six weeks off in order to fully recover.

It wasn’t the first bit of bad luck for Bice, who suffered a broken foot during a performance in Manchester, N.H., on July 31. The singer continued with the tour nonetheless.

Regarding the singer’s condition, Acton said that he told Bice, “You’ve got to get both feet under you, and one of them is broken.”
