Alan Thicke was mostly known for his work on Growing Pains, but the actor was still working in the months leading up to his his death on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, the actor filmed a role in the upcoming comedy The Clapper, which stars Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried and Leah Remini.

Now, Remini shares her memories of working with Thicke with PEOPLE:

“I, like many, was a huge fan of Alan and of Growing Pains,” says the actress, who currently stars in the A&E docu-series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. “In my career, I have had the luck to occasionally run in the same circles as him and he was always the guy you wanted to be around.”

“This past July, I had the pleasure of working with Alan on The Clapper,” she continues. “Alan was someone that always knew your name and made you feel at home when you were in his company – even if he had just met you. He made everyone feel just a little bit cooler by being around. My heart goes out to his wife Tanya and his children Brennan, Robin and Carter.”

Remini posted a photo with Thicke, Helms and fellow Clapper costars Mickey Gooch Jr. and Tracy Morgan on Instagram Tuesday.

“Just heard of Alan Thicke’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with him this year,” she captioned the photo. “He was such a talent and good guy. My heart goes out to his family and friends. May he Rest In Peace.”

A release date for The Clapper has yet to be announced.
