Actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee decided to allow themselves to be arrested at the New York City Police Department headquarters Tuesday as part of the continuing protest over the police shooting of unarmed African immigrant Amadou Diallo. More than 140 people were arrested Monday, including comedian and peace activist Dick Gregory and the publishers of Essence and Black Enterprise magazines. Former Mayor Ed Koch was also on his way to police headquarters Monday to protest and be arrested, but he collapsed with low blood pressure earlier in the day and had to be rushed to the hospital instead.
