Laid-back “Margaritaville” musician Jimmy Buffett, 54, is in the running to be named to the 11-member board of trustees of Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton, reports the Associated Press. The Palm Beach resident is one of 24 people — former Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis is another — chosen by faculty members to round out the board. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush expects to make the appointments by June 30. “Buffett’s inspired a whole generation,” said FAU professor David Lee, who assembled the list of candidates. “He would understand how the university can help improve the human condition.” For the record, Buffett went to the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied journalism. He was not available for comment on the possible FAU appointment.
