Celebrity A Petty Romance and a Heartbreak By Staff Author Published on June 28, 2001 10:50 AM Share Tweet Pin Email There have been some decidedly mixed blessings for the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. First, the good news. Frontman Tom Petty, 50, who wed his longtime girlfriend, Dana York, 37, on June 3 in Las Vegas, went through the ceremony all over again at their Malibu home on June 21, reports USA Today. Rock legend and ordained minister Little Richard, 68, officiated at the second wedding, which also included about 40 guests. The first wedding, said Petty, was just to “get the legal stuff out of the way.” Meanwhile, in bad news about the band, bassist Howie Epstein and singer-songwriter Carlene Carter, both 45, were taken into custody on Tuesday after they were stopped in a stolen vehicle, Albuquerque, N.M., police said. A state trooper said that he checked the vehicle’s registration and discovered it was reported stolen in Santa Fe on March 15. Police said that 2.9 grams of heroin and drug paraphernalia were also found inside. According to the criminal complaint, Carter claimed the paraphernalia and heroin were hers and was strictly “for personal use.” The two were released on bond Wednesday morning.
