As Teri Bauer, the wife of a CIA agent (Kiefer Sutherland) on the hit Fox series “24,” actress Leslie Hope lived a life only a soap star would envy, PEOPLE reports.

“From the start my daughter was missing,” says Hope, ticking off her character’s travails in one 24-hour period. “I was kidnapped and assaulted. I killed a guy, found out I was pregnant and that my husband was sleeping with his coworker. I had dissociative memory loss, and then I died.”

So how did Hope, 37, whose character survives in an alternate season finale on the new DVD edition, unwind after such a grueling adventure? She and her boyfriend, actor Colin Ferguson (“Opposite of Sex”), 37, roughed it on a no-frills trip to China.

“We took a 12-hour bus ride to get to one village. People came on board with stoves, kids, dogs, tents,” says Hope, next starring in the Lifetime movie “This Much I Know.”

“A guy tried to stab someone for a coat, and some monks had to wrestle him down,” says Hope. “More than once I said, ‘Honey, next time it’s the Ritz.’ “
