A Halloween Suit

A woman suing Universal Studios contends that the Orlando theme park’s annual Halloween Horror Nights haunted house attraction was too scary and that it caused her emotional distress. Cleanthi Peters, 57, also seeks compensation for injuries she says she suffered when she visited the haunted house with her 10-year-old granddaughter in 1998. The suit contends that as she and her granddaughter were approaching an exit, an employee with a chainsaw — minus the chain — chased them toward the exit, causing them to slip on a wet spot on the floor. (After the fall, the employee continued to scare them, according to court papers.) The ordeal left the two with unspecified physical injuries and inflicted “extreme fear, emotional distress and mental anguish.” They seek $15,000 in damages.
