Kelly Pittman is charged with criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment

A 26-year-old Tennessee mother has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment after her 3-year-old son fatally shot himself last week after being left alone inside a car.

A statement from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office confirms the arrest of Kelly Pittman, who lives in Apison, Tennessee.

Pittman’s son, Gavin, committed accidental suicide on February 29; the mother was not charged with a crime until Monday morning, police note.

Officers rushed Gavin to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased, according to a statement about Pittman’s arrest.

Pittman is being held at the Hamilton County Jail on $500,000 bond.

According to court records, Pittman has yet to enter a plea. Information about her attorney was unavailable at press time.

Pittman also has a number of outstanding warrants, online court documents show.
